Regardless of age, income, education or party affiliation, multiple polls show that most Americans want GMOs to be labeled. The House of Representatives has passed a law that would block mandatory GMO labeling at the state and national level. The Senate is expected to take up this bill in September. The Damariscotta Friday farmers’ market takes place 9 am – noon, from May 15 – October 30, at their NEW location this year: Round Top Farm, on Business Route 1. Monday farmers’ markets are held in Rising Tide’s parking lot (between RT and Rite Aid) from 3-6 pm, June through the end of September.

Looking for information about the Community Kitchen? It’s run by local organization FARMS (Focus on Agriculture in Rural Maine Schools). They offer cooking classes for all ages, and rent the kitchen for special events. Their website is www.mefarms.org.
